Porsche Paint to Sample, explained
The color is part of the spec.
Paint to Sample opens up a wider Porsche color palette. Backroad gives you a place to explore your own direction before you choose a real-world paint.
Read Porsche’s guide to custom colors ↗Paint to Sample vs. Paint to Sample Plus
Paint to Sample draws from Porsche’s established range. Paint to Sample Plus starts with an individual color request, followed by Porsche’s feasibility assessment and development. The options depend on your model and order.
Use the studio for inspiration
Backroad’s shades, finish effects, and community designs are digital concepts. They are not factory-approved colors or paint formulas. For an actual order, compare physical samples and confirm availability with a Porsche Center.
Porsche PTS Studio questions
What does PTS mean for Porsche?
PTS stands for Paint to Sample, Porsche’s program for choosing exterior colors beyond the regular model palette. Paint to Sample offers an established range of colors; Paint to Sample Plus lets customers propose an individual color for Porsche to assess and develop. Availability depends on the model and order.
Is Backroad PTS Studio free?
Yes. Explore colors, adjust finishes, and preview your Porsche 911 design for free, without an account. Enter your email when you name and publish a color so we can send its voting link. Backroad updates and membership early access are optional when you save.
Can I preview a color on a Porsche 911 or GT3 Touring?
The photo studio shows your color on a Porsche 911 (992.2). Choose Explore in 3D for an interactive 992 GT3 Touring preview. Saved images use the 911 photo studio, so your shared design stays consistent.
Are these official Porsche Paint to Sample colors?
Backroad is an independent creative tool, not Porsche’s factory configurator or approved paint catalog. Starting shades and community colors are digital concepts. A screen color or HEX value is not a Porsche paint code, formula, or confirmation that a color can be ordered.
How do I save and share my color?
Choose your shade and finish, then select Name & save my color. Give it a name and enter your email to publish a community page with downloadable images and a voting link. Your color name and optional display name are public; your email stays private.
How do I check a real PTS color before ordering?
Use a digital preview to explore a direction, then review physical paint samples with a Porsche Center. Lighting, screens, materials, and finishes change how a color looks. Confirm current color availability, pricing, and feasibility with Porsche for your specific model and order.
